Manufactured by the H.B. Rouse & Co., which manufactured printing equipment in Chicago in the 20th century until around 1975. This model of composing stick was patented in 1928. It was used by a printer named Alva Clifton Madairy when he worked at Waverly Press, a Baltimore based printing and publishing firm which was founded in 1890. It went public in 1972, and sold its printing division in 1993. Alva Madairy passed away in 2013, and the stick was donated to the BMI by his family in 2018. -- Scott Hudson 07/05/2022 |
